Bean’s Purchase, NH


Bean’s Purchase: A large town geographically (over 65 square miles) but small population-wise (0), the only road running through Bean’s Purchase connects Wild River Campground with Maine Rte. 113. There is no road access from New Hampshire.

The AT travels a considerable distance through Bean’s Purchase. Starting just to the east of New Hampshire Rte. 16 in Pinkham Notch, the trail is in the town until Mt. Moriah. The five peaks of Wildcat Mountain are crossed, as well as Carter Dome, Mt. Hight, South Carter Mountain, Middle Carter Mountain, North Carter Mountain and Imp Mountain. AMC’s Carter Notch hut is between Wildcat and Carter Dome. The AT also has Imp Shelter & Campsite on it. Tentsites at Blue Brook, Spruce Brook and Perkins Notch are located on access trail.
