Hartford, VT

Hartford: The AT follows several road in the village of West Hartford, including Vermont Rte. 14, and crosses White River there. A public library is located near the bridge where the AT crosses the river.

Hartford is better known for some of its larger villages, in particular Quechee and White River Junction. Quechee is home to Quechee Gorge, the deepest gorge in Vermont, and a number of tourist-related businesses are near here. These include motels and restaurants. White River Junction is a major transit hub with both an Amtrak and a Greyhound station. This is also where Interstates 91 and 89 intersect, and a number of motels and restaurants are located at this exit.

Did you know? Because it is located at the confluence of three rivers (Connecticut, White & Ottaquechee), Hartford was a major hub for waterways, followed by railroads and finally by highways.
