Galehead Hut (via Frost Trail)


 

Shelter Description


Originally built in 1931 from native trees, this hut survived the hurricane of 1938 that broke up the AT a year after it was originally completed. In 2000, the hut was completely rebuilt. Full-service in season (late spring/summer); self-service in spring; reservations recommended; fee. Accommodates 38. Clivus composting toilets. Resident staff members have trail information and weather reports; small retail store has safety items and snacks. Hut employs solar and wind power.
