Trail Connections – NH Rte. 25A to NH Rte. 25

The most prominent features on this section are climbs of 1,900′ Ore Hill and 2,200′ Mt. Mist. While these elevations are no where near the heights in the Whites just to the north, the north side of Mt. Mist features an elevation change of over 700 feet in half a mile. The southern end of the section is at a crossing of NH Rte. 25A which the AT follows for 0.1 mile. The AT north access is east of the AT south access. North of 25A, the AT crosses unpaved Cape Moonshine Rd. which connects 25A and 25C, goes by Ore Hill Campsite and then climbs Ore Hill. The AT next crosses NH Rte. 25C which is offset by about 400′, with the northern connection being east of the southern connection. Reentering the woods, the AT climbs Mt. Mist, goes by a junction to a side trail leading to the top of Webster Slide Mountain (the only way to climb that mountain), skirts the shores of Wachipauka Pond and then ends at a crossing of NH Rte. 25 near the village of Glencliff in the town of Warren. The nearest towns are: Orford, west on 25A; Wentworth, east on 25A and Cape Moonshine Rd.; Piermont, west on Cape Moonshine Rd. and 25C; Warren, east on 25C and 25; and Haverhill, west on 25. The nearest major commercial areas are Woodsville NH/Wells River VT (parts of Haverhill NH and Newbury VT, respectively), north of Orford and Piermont; Plymouth which is east of Wentworth; and, Woodstock which is east of Warren on NH Rte. 118.
